Scandium nitride is dark blue crystalline powder or fine particles, which is a rare earth nitride and two element inorganic Sc-N metal compound. It own semiconductor and photoelectric property, which belong to transition metal nitrides. Transition metal nitrides get wide application in protecitive coating for wear resistance. It react with water to form Sc(OH)3 and NH3. Scandium metal or scandium oxide and nitrogen are the raw material.
