Ytterbium Oxide

Ytterbium oxide white powder, but it show tawny if containing a few thorium oxide. Except lutetium oxide, It has weakest alkaline among yttrium group. Ytterbium trioxide slightly absorb moist in air and turn to ytterbium subcarbonate. It dissolve in dilute acid, but not in water and cold acid.

Applications

Ytterbium oxide mainly apply to make magnetic bubble material of computer, which make magnetic bubble storage high speed, high capacity,  small volume, multifunction.

It is raw material for preparing permanent magnet material, optical glass, pigment for ceramic, laser material, catalysts and chemical additive.

Ytterbium trioxide is raw material for fluorescent powder and coversion luminescent material. It is additive for radio ceramic, dielectric ceramic, special alloys and quartz fibre.
