Ytterbium Oxide

Ytterbium Oxide is a high-purity rare earth compound widely recognized for its unique physical and chemical properties. It appears as a white powder but may show a tawny hue if trace amounts of thorium oxide are present. Among yttrium group oxides, ytterbium(III) oxide is noted for its weak alkalinity, second only to lutetium oxide. While it absorbs moisture in the air, converting to ytterbium subcarbonate, it is soluble in dilute acids but remains insoluble in water and cold acids.

Applications

Ytterbium(III) oxide mainly apply to make magnetic bubble material of computer, which make magnetic bubble storage high speed, high capacity,  small volume, multifunction.

It is raw material for preparing permanent magnet material, optical glass, pigment for ceramic, laser material, catalysts and chemical additive.

Ytterbium trioxide is raw material for fluorescent powder and coversion luminescent material. It is additive for radio ceramic, dielectric ceramic, special alloys and quartz fibre.
