Ytterbium Fluoride

Ytterbium fluoride is white powder of hexagonal or orthorhombic crystal, which is rare earth metal fluoride. YbF3 is insoluble in water and dilute acid. Ytterbium trifluoride is stable at room temperature and pressure. YbF3 thin flim owns optical performance and reliability, which is a common optical film coating. It is good low refractive index material, which get use in long wave infrared broadband antireflection. Ytterbium trifluoride needs ytterbium oxide as raw material.

Applications

Ytterbium trifluoride is raw material for fluoride glasses, which is also additive for optical glass . It could be doped in indium trioxide transparent conducting thin film (YbF3-In2O3). Yttrium trifluoride is raw material for mixed coating material with calcium fluoride, titanium dioxide. YbF3 thin flim owns optical performance and reliability. When YbF3 and Al powder mix and vacuum melting, their mixed particles would get, which could be for use in infrared optics. It owns same optical property, further it has good mechanical property and prolong the service life of the system, so broadening the usable range of infrared system. YbF3 is raw material for ytterbium-doped calcium fluorophosphate laser crystal.
