Osmium powder is a kind of noble metal, which belong to platinum group and is the densest element. It is black powder, which tend to self-ignite and oxidize to osmium tetroxide. Os metal pellets has the largest density among all metals at present. Osmium metal is insoluble in cold water and ammonium hydroxide, just slightly soluble in nitric acid.

Applications
Osmium metal can apply to produce alloys of super high hardness. Its alloys with rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and platinum can be as bearing in instruments, tip of fountain pen and record player. Os-Pt alloy is for medical as bistoury. Os-Ir alloy can apply to pen, clock and other important instruments with long-life.
In industry, Element Os uses as catalyst. Further Elementary Os foils improve percent conversion at not very high temperature for sythesizing ammonia or adding hydrogen to react. Osmium metal slugs can use in spectral analysis too.
