Aluminum Sulfide

Aluminum Sulfide is slightly yellow crystalline particles or powder,which smell like rotten egg. If mixed with extra aluminum, it show grey. Aluminum powder and sulfur are raw materials. Aluminum(III) sulfide would react with water. It would totally hydrolyze in hot water to form aluminium hydroxide and hydrogen sulfide.  It would hydrolyze in moist air to release odour of hydrogen sulphide.

When come to moisture or water, aluminum(III) sulfide form hydrogen sulfide and aluminum hydroxide. When heating, it erode porcelain and could be restored by iron and hydrocarbon to get aluminum metal.  Sulphur and aluminum sulphate got after compounding with SO2.


Aluminum(III) sulfide should store in container in dry, cool, ventilate place. It should avoid oxides, moisture, water, acids.
