Cadmium Telluride

Cadmium telluride is odorless black piece, ingot, lump, rod, crystal substrate or powder, which is minor metal telluride and II-VI group compound semiconductor material. II-VI group compound semiconductor materials are important among semiconductor materials, which can not process into large diameter single crystal untill now.  Most of them use as epitaxial thin film. What achieving important applications are CdTe, CdSZnSe, ZnS, Hg1-xCdxTeCdTe. CdTe is insoluble in water, however it can decompose in nitric acid. If store in moisture air for a long time, it oxidize. Tellurium and cadmium metal, sodium telluride and cadmium acetate solution or cadmium salt are the raw material. Monocrystal or polycrystal CdTe is grown by vertical directional crystallization or vertical zone melting.

Applications

Cadmium telluride can be doped with various impurities to get different n type or p type semiconductor material. When replace Cd with In, it forms n type semiconductor. When replace Cd with CuAgAu, it forms p type semiconductor.

CdTe own very high optical absorption coefficient(>5*105/cm), even only 2μm thick CdTe thin film, which have optical absorption over 90% at standard AM1.5 condition. Its highest transfer efficiency reach 28%. So CdTe solar cell is main use.

CdTe battery is short of CdTe thin film solar cell. Heterojunction of P type CdTe and N type CdS is the basis.

CdTe powder applies to spectral analysis, infrared electro-optical modulator, infrared detector, infrared lens and windows, phosphor, room temperature γ ray detector, near-visible region luminescent device and so on.
